The Paddle Explore course is designed for people who hold the Paddle Discover award, or have done a bit of paddling and so have basic control of the boat. A prerequisite is that you are comfortable with capsizing.

The course is designed to extend your paddling skills in your chosen craft and develop good technique as well as learning new skills

It is a significant step in your paddling development and gives you the fundamental skills which will be the basis of all your future paddling, be it lakes, rivers, white water or the sea.

We will provide boats, paddles, helmets, buoyancy aids and all other necessary equipment, although if you have your own kit then you are welcome to use it.

Successful performance at this level indicates that the paddler can use fundamental paddle sport skills on flat water to control movement of your chosen craft, and have an understanding of how the paddle, boat, and water interact.

This course is craft specific you must choose kayak or open canoe although there will be ‘exposure’ to both in the context of NCKC being a multi discipline club.
